Profoundly Blue is a concert celebrating the music of Louisiana born clarinettist Edmond Hall, the Swing and New Orleans Jazz legend.

The show features leading UK clarinet star Adrian Cox (Kansas Smitty’s House Band, Bad Manners) along with his fine band featuring the best of the UK’s young and vibrant jazz musicians: Joe Webb (piano), Simon Read (double bass) and Gethin Jones (drums).

The title “Profoundly Blue” comes from the 1941 hit album which featured Edmond Hall along with Meade Lux Lewis and Charlie Christian.

Adrian Cox leads the quartet with this as a starting point and continues through a programme of tunes from the albums “ Rumpus on Rampart” and “Petite Fleur”.

Born in 1901, Edmond Hall was one of the greatest of the New Orleans jazz giants. His individual style was instantly recognisable, with its broad, fast vibrato. His was hot, fiery music, full of drive and biting attack – yet he possessed a wonderful feeling for the blues. Over his long career Hall worked extensively with many top performers as both a sideman and bandleader. He played for many years in the ‘Louis Armstrong All Stars’ and appeared in the 1956 film ‘High Society’, alongside ‘Satchmo’, Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly and Frank Sinatra. In the sixties, Edmond Hall made many successful tours of the United States and Europe, where he teamed up with the British bandleader, Chris Barber.

Adrian’s love for the clarinet is evident in his soulful playing, as you will hear in this fantastic tribute to one of the true legends of jazz.
